D.I. Ray Returns for Season 2 on WPBS-TV Starting June 16, 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (June 10, 2024) – Fresh, relevant and thought-provoking, D.I. Ray, executive produced by Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty) and starring Parminder Nagra (The Blacklist, Bend it Like Beckham) introduces viewers to Leicester-born Rachita Ray, a police officer who takes on a case that forces her to confront a lifelong personal conflict between her British identity and her South Asian heritage. The gripping series returns for season 2 with 6 parts – premiering on WPBS-TV Sundays, at 10:00 pm, starting June 16, 2024.

During its UK broadcast, “D.I. Ray” received critical praise for its updated take on the formulaic crime thriller, “A police procedural with a fresh perspective…” cheered The Guardian, and National World commended “…a clever blend of thoughtful character study with an engaging police procedural, worth watching for its lead alone.”

Nagra is joined by a highly-talented cast including Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), as her boss DCI Kerry Henderson, Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) as DI Martyn Hunter who is also Ray’s fiancé, and Maanuv Thiara (Landscapers) as PS Tony Khatri, Rachita’s partner.

SEASON 2 DESCRIPTION

After being suspended from the force when her fiancé was found to have links to organized crime, DI Rachita Ray returns to homicide to investigate another sensitive and high-profile case centering on the murder of Frank Chapman, the head of a notorious crime family, and a local nurse caught in the crossfire. Their deaths ignite tensions across the city, putting DI Ray in a race against time to uncover the truth before the Chapman family act out their revenge and an all-out gang war erupts onto the streets. All evidence points towards a rival crime family, the Mochanis, being responsible for the murders, but as DI Ray starts pulling at the threads of the case, a much more insidious mystery begins to unravel. Once again, the series will explore deep personal conflicts for Rachita as both a British Asian woman and as a police officer.
