WATERTOWN, NY; December 23, 2022 – In Britain by Beach, Anita Rani explores the beaches that define Britain — from some of its most popular and well known, to hidden gems off the beaten track. Locations featured include the windswept Yorkshire and Northumberland coast in the north, the southern shores of Devon, the remote beauty of south Wales, and the epic coast of eastern Scotland. This series showcases regionality in a wonderfully British way.

WPBS-TV will be premiering Britain by Beach Tuesday, December 27 through Friday, December 30, each night at 10 pm.

DEVON (Tuesday, December 27 at 10:00 pm) Devon, the quintessential beach county of ice cream and cream teas. At the beautiful Burgh Island Hotel, Anita discovers the secrets of crime author Agatha Christie. On north Devon’s legendary surf beaches, she takes to the waves herself. And, at the ghostly remains of Hallsands, Anita discovers the haunting tale of the village that vanished, told by the descendants of those who once lived there.

SOUTH WALES (Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00 pm)Anita visits south Wales, a place of beautiful and remote beaches attractive to daring adventurers and desperate exiles. She travels to the spectacular seven-mile long Pendine Sands, where Sir Malcolm Campbell became the first man on earth to break the 150mph land speed record in 1925.

EASTERN SCOTLAND (Thursday, December 29 at 10:00 pm) On the beach below Dunnottar Castle, Anita hears the incredible tale of how the Honours of Scotland, the national crown jewels, were smuggled out of the castle under the noses of English troops. She learns about Sir Walter Scott at Edinburgh’s Portobello Beach, and gets a history lesson in Firth of Forth.

YORKSHIRE AND NORTHUMBERLAND Friday, December 30 at 10:00 pm) The iconic pleasure beaches and treacherous windswept coasts in Yorkshire and Northumberland are explored. Anita learns the unknown story of the actual shipwreck that inspired the scene in the novel Dracula, when the Count lands in Whitby and runs up the steps to the Abbey in the form of a huge black dog.
