Given evidence that protection against symptomatic COVID019 “may wane over time,” Dr. Leana Wen supports people having the option of getting a booster after they have received their two-dose vaccine, she said in a conversation with PBS NewsHour correspondent William Brangham. She distinguished the Biden administration’s new announcement on boosters from other recent guidance that some immunocompromised people need a third dose. In the latter case, Wen said those people “never responded very well to the vaccines” in the first place.
