PBS Wins 12 Daytime Emmy Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —

Public broadcasting programs received a total of 14 Daytime Emmys this year, more than any network, cable company or syndication.

SESAME STREET received eight Emmys, including awards for Outstanding Pre-school Children’s Series, Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series (Kevin Clash) and Outstanding Directing in a Children’s Series.

THE ELECTRIC COMPANY received three Emmys, including awards for Best Children’s Series and Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Series. And SCI GIRLS was awarded for best New Approaches for Daytime Children’s programs.

“Our work in children’s media continues to lead the way in providing educational, entertaining television content.” Said Paula Kerger, President and CEO for PBS, in an email to station general managers.” As the media landscape continues to shift, one thing remains constant: public television’s commitment to distributing the most educational, inspiring content on the air today.”

Below is a complete list of PBS recipients of the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, announced Friday, June 17, 2011 (Creative Arts Emmys) and Sunday, June 19, 2011 (Programs).

The Electric Company (PBS) Produced by Sesame Workshop. THE ELECTRIC COMPANY is a multi-media literacy campaign charged with reducing the literacy gap between low and middle income families and advancing the idea that ‘reading is cool.’

• Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Editing
• Outstanding Writing in A Children’s Series

Sesame Street (PBS) Produced by Sesame Workshop
The people on this very special street learn life’s lessons together, provide viewers with strong role models and teach children that everyone brings a special ability to the community. On SESAME STREET, children learn to use their imaginations, build social skill, and respect people’s differences.
