Beyond the Competition – Showcasing Former Winners of The Orchestra of Northern New York’s Young Artist Competition.
Junior High and High School students from Northern and Central New York are invited to participate in the 15th Annual Young Artist Competition on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Participants will receive feedback from a panel of professional musicians that includes ONNY’s music director.
Cash prizes will be awarded and the winner will have the opportunity to solo with ONNY at a future concert.

ANDREW HORWITZ is a saxophonist and composer. He studied at Ithaca College under professors Steven Mauk, Michael Titlebaum, and Allison Adams, and has worked and performed alongside many notable musicians, including Branford Marsalis, Clay Jenkins, and Donald Sinta. His works have been commissioned and performed by members of The President’s Own US Marine Band and the 6e Bataillon du Royal 22e Régiment. Today, Andrew is a New York City-based software developer, specializing in digitization and search of academic material. He has worked with the McGill Distributed Digital Music Archives & Libraries Lab on optical music recognition processes, and helped architect the digitization of the german Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart encyclopedia with Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale.
