WATERTOWN, NY; January 14, 2020 — WPBS, Watertown’s PBS Station, is pleased to welcome Celeste Oppito to the station filling the role of: Manager, Education & Lifelong Learning Partnerships and Services. Celeste holds a BA in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from SUNY Potsdam, as well as a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. Celeste also minored in Outdoor Education, which makes for a perfect fit for our two-station nation.
“I am so excited to be here,” said Celeste Oppito. “I grew up watching WPBS. To be able to say I now work here is pretty amazing.”
Celeste will take on the responsibility of facilitating WPBS’s renewed commitment to education through the promotion of GPS for Success SM, a collaborative program developed in partnership between Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, the Northern New York Community Foundation, and WPBS. GPS for Success SM assists students and young adults in Northern New York with becoming career-ready. She will also lead WPBS’ School Service Committee; an ongoing collaboration among local school districts, coordinate the development of learning materials and curriculum for educators, parents, and the community, and act as a liaison between the station, community partners, and National PBS Educational Initiatives. In addition, Celeste will also coordinate the outreach and scheduling for other local education initiatives like Whiz Quiz, the High School Holiday Concert, PBS Teacherline, and may other children’s events in the region.
