Watertown, NY – WPBS-TV announced the winners from the annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest earlier this month. The annual contest is designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active storytelling and empowers children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

“We were beyond excited to have had over 140 entries to this year’s K-3 Writers Contest! The amount of creativity and level of literacy skills displayed by young authors is truly inspiring,” said Michelle Todd, Family Learning Coordinator at WPBS-TV.

An Award Ceremony honoring the winners of this year’s Writers Contest will be held during the Ready-Set-Fun! Sunny Days Literacy Festival at the Salmon Run Mall on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 1:30pm in front of the former Bon-Ton court. The ceremony will include a screening of each winning author’s self-narrated and illustrated entry, produced by WPBS-TV Associate Producer/Director Kelsey McLean, as well as a presentation of certificates and a prize pack.
