WPBS-DT and The Butler Did it Players present “Murder & Mayhem Wedding Caper” at Singer Castle on Dark Island on Friday, August 3, in celebration of WPBS-DT 60th Anniversary and the popularity of the who-done-it’s on WPBS! Wedding Guests will board Uncle Sam Boat Tours in Alexandria Bay at 5 pm, enjoy a 90-minute cruise to Dark Island, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
The narrative of the mystery begins on the passage to Singer Castle! Join us as we travel back in time to the Thousand Islands in the 1940’s. Here, this was an era of big band music, road racing, boating excursions and visits by the rich and famous. Singer Castle on Dark Island was no exception to those long luxurious summer days. But something is amiss…..a wedding was to take place in the garden of the castle. A no expenses spared event to celebrate the union of an only daughter to an up and coming young man. But there can be no wedding without the bride, and this joyous day turned sinister when her lifeless body was found among the roses in the hours before dawn. No cause of death! No witnesses! The family and the local police have no leads! Who will find the killer so that this murdered soul can rest? Why, the most famous detective in history! Sherlock Holmes! Holmes and Dr. Watson will travel from Alexandria Bay to Dark Island aboard an Uncle Sam boat to put their detective skills to work and you are invited to join them! Dress in your best 1940’s attire: a fedora, suspenders, a zoot suit, gloves, saddle shoes, a tea dress…and join us on a tour traveling through the gardens and the castle itself meeting the family, eavesdropping on the staff, and gathering clues. Be sure to take notes because you’ll be given the chance to interview the characters and make a guess about who-done-it, how, and why! Step inside a real life game of CLUE with Sherlock Holmes as your guide! Dessert and beverage stations are set up throughout for guests to enjoy the performances and relish the sights and surroundings of the Castle on a mysterious summer evening. On the voyage back to Alexandria Bay, guests will attempt to solve the Wedding Caper. The winner receives an overnight stay in the Royal Suite at Singer Castle!

About Singer Castle on Dark Island
A part of American history and local folklore meet at Singer Castle on Dark Island, located on the St. Lawrence River. Singer Castle is the only remaining/existing castle on our river to be completed, fully furnished and resided in during the heyday of the great builders and industrials in New York. Calumet and Castle Rest (Pullman) were both completed and lived in. (And both were prior to Towers.) The Castle remained in the possession of the original owners, the Bourne family, from its construction in 1905 until the mid-1960’s. Frederick Bourne was the fifth President of the Singer Sewing Machine Company, which is where the name “Singer Castle” came from. When the Bourne family summered there, it was called “The Towers” which comes from the inspiration that Ernest Flagg, the architect whom designed this structure, had after reading the book Woodstock by Sir Walter Scott.
