The highlights of Vice President Kamala Harris’ career and leadership strengths were featured in a video during the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. On Day 4, the DNC focused on the future as Kamala Harris formally accepted her party’s nomination for president.
The video paid tribute to Harris’s late mother, a South Asian scientist, who raised a young Harris and her sister after a divorce. It also detailed her path to becoming a prosecutor, where she focused on incarcerating violent criminals and sexual predators, noting a pivotal moment in adolescence when Harris discovered her best friend was being sexually assaulted by her father.
The video continued to pinpoint Harris’ legislative successes as California’s attorney general and senator, as well as U.S. vice president. Those closest to Harris, such as her husband Doug Emhoff, gave testimonies of her loving commitment to family and parenthood.
“Now is the time, America. The joy is back, the pride is back, the hope is back. She’s doing the work. She’s fighting for us,” the video concluded. “She’s the new way for our way forward. She is the next president of the United States of America.”
Harris’ speech Thursday is her first official chance to offer her vision for the country to voters. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz formally accepted the vice presidential nomination the day before.
