WATCH: Biden says he’ll bring peace and security to the Middle East

Although he’s a lame duck, President Joe Biden said he’ll keep working to end the war in Gaza and establish peace in the Middle East.

Biden was the keynote address on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where his vice president Kamala Harris will step into the spotlight not as a running mate but at the top of the ticket.

“We’re working around the clock … to prevent a wider war and reunite hostages with their families, and surge humanitarian health and food assistance into Gaza now,” Biden said.

He also acknowledged protesters outside of the convention, who hours earlier had broken through security fencing.

“Those protesters across the street, they have a point. A lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides.”

Earlier during the first day of the convention, delegates formally adopted a party platform. Later in the week, Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept their nominations as the party’s candidates.
