Why is this year’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee?
The decision nods to Wisconsin’s importance as a key battleground state. In 2020, more than 3 million votes were cast statewide, and President Joe Biden won by a slim margin of 20,000 votes.
Four years earlier, Donald Trump won the state over Hillary Clinton by about the same number of votes.
This election, Republicans want to flip states like Wisconsin back to red. That includes states along the so-called Democratic “blue wall” such as Pennsylvania and Michigan.
