During the June 27 CNN Presidential Debate, former President Donald Trump said that his rival, President Joe Biden, is “the worst president in the history of our country.”
“If he wins this election, our country doesn’t have a chance,” Trump said, “We probably won’t have a country left anymore. That’s how bad it is.”
Biden countered by saying that a panel of historians had ranked Trump as the worst U.S. president. PBS News’ fact-checking partners, PolitiFact, checked this claim and found it to be true. The rankings came from the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey, which was released in February and collected responses from 154 presidential historians. “The survey ranked Biden as the 14th best president in U.S. history, and put Trump last,” PolitiFact found.
The debate was the first time the two faced off this election season. It was also the first debate between a sitting and former president.
