PBS NewsHour’s Amna Nawaz reports on immigration from the Guatamala border #shorts

Immigration has become a key issue in the 2024 presidential campaign. Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump met with border officials and lawmakers during their recent dueling visits to the U.S. border with Mexico.

After a record high in December in which U.S. Border Patrol agents had almost 250,000 encounters with migrants at the southern border, that number dropped in January, with Customs and Border Protection reporting around 124,000 encounters.

But how do those migrants reach the U.S. southern border? @amnaonpbs and our NewsHour team travelled into Latin America to report on the migration flows that eventually reach the United States. Watch their stories on the PBS NewsHour this week and on pbs.org/newshour.
