The first half of 2021 has brought a record number of bills aiming to restrict the rights of transgender people across the United States. Few of these bills, which primarily target trans youth, have become law; most of those that have are tied up in legal challenges. But even in places where proposals don’t move forward, the political climate is taking a toll on the mental health of trans people. Kate Sosin, who covers LGBTQ+ issues for the 19th News, helps us break down what you need to know about these bills and what’s next.
