WATCH: Rep. Neguse on why the Senate should convict Trump | Second Trump impeachment trial

Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Colo., spoke Feb. 10 as House impeachment managers made their case for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection during the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Neguse argued that the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol didn’t “just happen,” but was rather the result of months of efforts by Trump to convince his supporters that the only way he could lose the election would be if it was stolen. Neguse played footage showing how Trump made false claims of election fraud following his loss in the November presidential election to “inspire, instigate, and ignite” his supporters, encouraging them to “fight like hell” in order to “stop the steal.”
“Some of his supporters had been primed for this over many months,” Neguse said of the attack, noting that Trump had encouraged them to gather at the Capitol on social media in the weeks before Congress would convene to certify Joe Biden’s victory. “Senators, this clearly was not just one speech,” Neguse said of the events that day, adding that Trump assembled, summoned and incited the mob. He continued to show evidence from news reporting and court documents that suggested the rioters believed they were following Trump’s orders when they perpetrated the attack.
