WATERTOWN, NY (September 24, 2024) – Artistic Horizons is a brand new series from WPBS which showcases the accomplishments of established and emerging artists in a variety of disciplines. Feature stories are contributed by many PBS stations across the country and WPBS is pleased to be able to make this content available in our service region, on air and online.
The new series is part of an Arts Content Sharing Initiative, headed by WNET in New York City. This is the 13th season of the initiative and will include 40 half-hour programs for PBS broadcast.
Artistic Horizons will air on WPBS-TV Monday evenings at 7:30 pm, beginning September 30, 2024.
EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS
Episode 1 (September 30 at 7:30 pm) Meet Megan Wimberley, a contemporary western artist and the founder of Cowgirl Artists of America; Ernest “Mooney” Warther, an esteemed wood carver; and Emily Tan, a Florida artist who creates art across disciplines.
Episode 2 (October 7 at 7:30 pm) Meet artist Kristin Skees, who works in a variety of media; the work of Ohio-based artist David Butler creates conversation; and travel to Florida to visit the IGNITE Broward art and light festival.
Episode 3 (October 14 at 7:30 pm) Travel to Sewah Studios, a manufacturer of roadside historical markers, to see how they’re helping spotlight this important part of women’s history. Faced with pain and struggle, art has given Melvin Gómez hope. Inspired by Yaa Gyasi’s novel Homegoing, the exhibit “Home Again: The Embodiment of Africa through Art and Fabric” features work by local, national, and international artists that link the past to the present and evoke the idea of home.
Episodes will resume after the finale of WHIZ QUIZ season 44 – Premiering Weekdays at 7:30 pm, October 21 – December 16, 2024.
WPBS has a long history of profiling North Country artists, writers and musicians, and will be contributing many local stories to the series. These will include short films from the Artists of St. Lawrence County and Folk Art Expressions series, funded by the Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund.
