WATERTOWN, NY (May 4, 2023) – WPBS is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Writers Contest, who were selected by an expert panel of area educators. The annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest is a much-loved tradition at WPBS, and an unmatched opportunity for budding young authors to express their creativity. This year, over 30 stories were submitted for consideration by children in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The winners were judged to have stories which were the most creative, original, and imaginative for their grade level.
“We are so impressed with the creativity and writing skills evidenced by the winners, and all of the contest entrants. Promoting literacy is a core mandate and priority for all of us at WPBS, as the ability to convey ideas through narrative and writing is a fundamental skill in so many fields. We’re delighted to celebrate the achievements of these young people and thank all the entrants, their parents and our judges for making this contest possible,” said Mark Prasuhn, President and General Manager at WPBS-TV.
An Award Ceremony honoring the winners of this year’s Writers Contest will be held during the Ready-Set-Fun! Summer of Possibilities Literacy Festival – at the Salmon Run Mall on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The ceremony will include a presentation of certificates and prizes to the winners to reward their accomplishments. Videos of the young readers sharing their stories will be available on WPBS-TV during PBS KIDS programming, as well as on our Facebook and YouTube pages.
Please join WPBS in congratulating the winners and thanking all the young authors (and their families) who participated!
